چکیده

A mathematical model is presented for comparing geometric and image-based simplification methods. Geometric simplification reduces the number of polygons in the virtual object and image-based simplification replaces the object with an image. Our model integrates and extrapolates existing accuracy estimates, enabling the comparison of different simplification methods in order to choose the most efficient method in a given situation. The model compares data transfer and rendering load of the methods. Byte size and expected lifetime of simplifications are calculated as a function of the desired visual quality and the position and movement of the viewer. An example result is that in typical viewing and rendering conditions and for objects with a radius in the order of one meter, imposter techniques can be used at viewing distances above fifteen meters. Below that, simplified polygon objects are required, and below one meter distance the full-resolution virtual object has to be rendered. An electronic version of the model is available on the web.

Virtual 3D city models provide powerful user interfaces for communication of 2D and 3D geoinformation. Providing high quality visualization of massive 3D geoinformation in a scalable, fast, and cost efficient manner is still a challenging task. Especially for mobile and web-based system environments, software and hardware configurations of target systems differ significantly. This makes it hard...

Image-Based Walkthrough over Internet on Mobile Devices

Real-time rendering of complex 3D scene on mobile devices is a challenging task. The main reason is that mobile devices have limited computational capabilities and are lack of powerful 3D graphics hardware support. In this paper, we propose an Image-Based Rendering (IBR) system for mobile devices to visualize real-world or synthetic scenes in network environment. Our system uses server for comp...

Segmentation and texture-based hierarchical rendering techniques for large-scale real-color biomedical image data

Hierarchical, texture-based rendering is a key technology for exploring largescale data sets. We describe a framework for an interactive rendering system based on a client/server model. The system supports various output media from immersive 3-D environments to desktop based rendering systems. It uses web-based transport mechanisms to transfer the data between the server and the client applicat...

Multiresolution 3D Rendering on Mobile Devices

We present a client/server system that is able to display 3D scenes on handheld devices. At the server we extract the geometry that is visible for each client and send it. We also extract texture and material information. The clients, running on mobile devices, use that information to render realistic images. Our geometry extraction algorithm employs multiresolution and view-dependent simplific...

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering

Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
